Por 1968RIP . El músico hawaiano Makana cantó este canción de protesta ante los líderes mundiales en la cumbre de APEC.

Mientras el presidente Obama se reunía con los líderes del mundo el fin de semana en la cumbre de la Cooperación Económica Asia-Pacífico (APEC) en Hawai, para analizar cómo impulsar el comercio mundial, los activistas del movimiento “A ocupar Honolulu” protestaron contra la desigualdad económica que —sostienen— sería producto de los nuevos acuerdos comerciales.

Mientras tanto, en el recinto fuertemente custodiado donde se realizó la cumbre, el reconocido músico y guitarrista hawaiano Makana hizo su propio acto de protesta. Makana había sido invitado para que tocara música instrumental durante la cena de gala la noche del sábado. En la cena, Makana se abrió la chaqueta y mostró una camiseta que decía “A ocupar con aloha”. Entonces, en lugar de tocar la música instrumental de fondo prevista, empezó a cantar una canción de protesta que había difundido ese mismo día. Mientras los líderes mundiales, entre ellos Obama y el premier chino Hu Jintao, estaban sentados en la audiencia, Makana cantó su nueva canción, “Somos la mayoría”, inspirada en el movimiento “A ocupar Wall Street”.

“Empecé muy suave y subliminalmente con una actitud tipo ‘Vengan, acérquense al escenario. Llegó el momento de que expresemos nuestra rabia’”, afirma Makana. “Entonces me di cuenta de que ¡ah! no había problemas!”. Así que la volví a cantar”.

Estuvo cantando la canción durante 45 minutos seguidos.
